This Nord Electro 7 HP review reads the published specifications from a comparison-first point of view: touch, sound, practice fit, value, and limits.
The Electro 7 HP pairs the Electro 7's organ, piano and synth sections with a 73-key hammer action made by Kawai that has three sensors per key. It weighs 13 kg and has no speakers, Bluetooth or metronome, so it is best compared with stage pianos rather than home practice pianos.
The Electro 7 HP is the Electro 7 for players who put piano touch first. Its sections, connections and 500 program locations match the Electro 7 73; the difference is the keyboard, a Kawai-made hammer action with three sensors in place of the semi-weighted waterfall keys, plus 3.5 kg of extra weight. That makes the HP the more sensible Electro 7 for a pianist who also covers organ and synth parts, while an organist who wants waterfall keys for glissandi is better served by the 73. For home practice its limits are the same as the 73's: no speakers, no metronome and no sustain pedal in the box. The 73-key range also leaves out the lowest and highest notes of classical repertoire, so a classical student should treat the HP as a stage instrument, not as a first practice piano.
Nord's specification reads 'Triple sensor Kawai Hammer Action Portable keyboard', with 73 keys from E to E. In other words, the keybed is a hammer action made by Kawai with three sensors per key. Nord does not name the Kawai action model or the key surface material, so we do not state either. The piano section offers three keyboard touch settings. Compared with the semi-weighted waterfall keys of the Electro 7 73, this is the version aimed at piano playing; how it compares with a home digital piano's action is something to try in person. We have not played the Electro 7 HP; this note follows Nord's published specification.
Pianists who play in bands, churches or studios and want one keyboard that covers acoustic and electric piano, organ and synth sounds on a hammer action. It also suits players who already practise on an 88-key piano at home and want a smaller, lighter instrument for rehearsals and gigs. It is not a good fit for a beginner's first piano, for classical study that needs the full 88-key range, or for anyone who wants to practise without headphones or an amplifier.
The HP shares its sound engine with the Electro 7 73. Pianos come from the Nord Piano Library in six categories, with string resonance, dynamic compression and unison, and 120 voices of polyphony for Piano Library sounds. The organ models and rotary speaker emulation are taken from the Nord Organ 3, and the synth covers sample, analog and FM sounds with Nord Sample Library support and 30+ voices. Each section has its own effects, alongside a global reverb that now includes a spring reverb and new amp models. Nord does not publish a total sound count, so we do not give one. Because there are no speakers, the sound you hear depends on the headphones, monitors or PA you connect.
Nord announced the Electro 7 on 16 January 2026. Japanese retailers list the HP for release in Japan in mid-November 2026 and are taking pre-orders, while the Electro 7 73 is already on sale there. Nord publishes no US list price. The box holds only the user manual and power cord, so a sustain pedal and a stand are extra. Connections match the 73: one 1/4-inch headphone output, two 1/4-inch line outputs, a 1/8-inch monitor input, sustain and expression pedal inputs, MIDI in and out, and USB-B. The body measures 1070 × 130 × 341 mm (W × H × D). Nord now lists the Electro 6 among its legacy products.

Korg Grandstage X →A stage piano is a different kind of instrument. It lives in a gig bag, loads into a venue, and has to sound professional the moment you plug in. Unlike a home digital piano, the priorities shift to portability, durability, and the controls you can reach mid-song. This guide walks you through what actually matters when you play out, and which models hold up night after night.
Read more →Buying a digital piano can feel overwhelming. Hundreds of models, confusing specs, and marketing jargon make it hard to know what actually matters. This guide breaks down everything you need to understand, in plain language, so you can make a confident decision. If you learned piano years ago and are returning rather than starting fresh, the priorities are different — see our [guide for returning players](/en/guides/digital-piano-for-returning-senior-players/).
Read more →"Weighted keys" and "graded hammer action" are two of the most common terms you'll see when shopping for a digital piano. They sound similar but refer to different things. This guide explains exactly what they mean, how they affect your playing, and which type you should look for.
